1.    I was shocked by this story and how it showed the role reversal of pregnancy. The female aliens in this story use male humans as hosts for their eggs while having a relationship with them. It’s almost like being in a relationship with the xenomorph from alien which would be really creepy. Even though this story was strange it was a neat take on sci-fi narratives as it focused on a very specific theme such as birth and expanded upon that idea.
2.    As a male I wouldn’t want to conceive worm like children. When one of the characters Lomas was giving birth and had the larva come out of him, I could imagine that excruciating pain. Being a male my whole life, I never had the idea or worry of what giving birth would feel like. However, throughout reading this story I put my shoes in the roles of the male carriers and grasped an idea of male birth.

3.    If I were to change the medium of this story, I would change it into a 2D animated film. It would be an animated film similar to DC animated films. The reason why is because so much can be done with 2D animation. As a sci-fi story 2D animation can add on to that imaginative aspect. It would bring a comic book and 80’s/90’S cartoon liveliness to it that live action and 3D movies can’t.

Odd and bizarre describes this weeks reading for me. This week I read Aye and Gomorrah. This is a story set in outer space centered around a group of characters called spacers. When the spacers are about to hit puberty, they are neutered. The spacers are attracted to the frelks who are another group in this book. Sadly, the spacers do don’t really have a place to call home. There are also told to leave places where they are not welcome. Personally, this story was a bit odd for me and a little out of my zone of interest. I do respect the variety of space stories that are created, however this one wasn’t really for me. I will say that the worldbuilding was neat and the character dynamics were unique as well.

Neverwhere

Neverwhere was a deep, dark and spooky read for this week. This story is based in London and the world bellow it called London Below. The inhabitants of London Below are invisible to the surface dwellers like us. What I enjoyed about this book was how it focused on the aspect of a hidden world within a world. I grew up watching all sorts of movies like that such as Narnia and the Spider wick Chronicles. Before this week’s class I hadn’t seen the movie Coraline. However, after watching a part it I was intrigued. After my day of classes I rushed to my room and finished watching Coraline. The entire film took me away mentally. The stop motion animation was very trippy and the way the story was told was spot on. It reminded me of Neverwhere as it showed the viewer how deep they can go into this alternate world. As humans there are things that frighten us but then there are frightening things that interest us. That’s the way Coraline saw this mysterious world through the small living room

Marry Shelly's Frankenstein

In all Honesty I didn’t not know that Frankenstein was the scientist or the main character of the Frankenstein story. When I was younger and even quite some time before reading this story I thought that Frankenstein was the name of the monster that was created. Little Did I know that Victor Frankenstein was the scientist. Something that I found interesting about this story was the intelligence of the monster Frankenstein created. In the begening of the story, the monster is riding a dogsled. At first, I didn’t know who it was. Then When I connected the dots and heard that the giant monster was being chased by a man named Victor Frankenstein, it made sense. The monster that was created endured a life that went from completely not knowing who he was and what he was doing to then telling his creator about the life he had experienced.
